when I was little, I'd create these little magazine covers in my drawing books. in sparkly gel pen, I'd outline the cover of my ideal girls' magazine - columns for articles about fashion, boys, how to decorate your bedroom... there were line-drawn girls like me on the cover, looking happy and stylish. looking back, I found myriad covers I'd invented at various ages. one of them tragically includes 'advice for dealing with bullies.' this is a modern girl's magazine, the drawing book replaced by the notes app, the whimsical strain carried on the trembling waves of advanced social media consumption. this is a wall of text I wrote when my daughter told me I was having 'a lot of feelings about the internet.'
